Publicly listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), the company publishes primarily curriculum-aligned content, general books, and licenses, with net sales predominantly from book and e-learning sales (99.5%). It operates subsidiaries in Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, and has distributor partnerships in countries like Malawi, Zambia, Cameroon, South Sudan, and Senegal, generating revenue primarily from Kenya (76.8%), Uganda (20.8%), and Tanzania (2.4%).
Founded in 1965 as Longmans of Kenya, a subsidiary of Longman Group International (UK), it transitioned to Longman Kenya Limited in 1969 and began local printing in the 1970s. The company expanded regionally with its first subsidiary in Uganda in 1995, followed by Tanzania in 2005, and further into Rwanda and other markets. It listed on the NSE on May 30, 2012, via introduction, becoming the first publishing firm to go public in Kenya's KES 12 billion industry, and rebranded to Longhorn Publishers in 2015 for a regional identity.
