Feb 15, 2026

Effective Date: February 15, 2026 | Last Updated: February 15, 2026

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how stocks.or.ke ("the Platform", "we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit our website at https://stocks.or.ke.

By continuing to browse the Platform, you acknowledge that cookies may be placed on your device in accordance with this policy. Where we are required to obtain your consent before placing certain cookies, we will do so through our cookie consent banner. You may withdraw or adjust your consent at any time as described in Section 6.

This Cookie Policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which provides further detail on how we collect and process your personal data.

2. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to website owners.

Cookies can be classified in several ways:

2.1 By Duration

  • Session cookies – Temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser. They are used to maintain your session while you navigate the Platform.
  • Persistent cookies – Cookies that remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them manually. They are used to remember your preferences across visits.

2.2 By Origin

  • First-party cookies – Cookies set directly by stocks.or.ke on our own domain.
  • Third-party cookies – Cookies set by external services (such as Google Analytics or Google AdSense) that we have integrated into the Platform.

2.3 Similar Technologies

In addition to cookies, we may use similar tracking technologies such as web beacons (also called pixel tags), local storage objects, and scripts. References to "cookies" in this policy include these technologies unless otherwise stated.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

We use the following categories of cookies on the Platform. The tables below identify the specific cookies in use, their purpose, and their retention periods.

3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function and cannot be switched off. They are typically set in response to actions you take, such as logging in or filling in forms. You cannot opt out of these cookies without affecting core Platform functionality.

5. How Long Do Cookies Last?

The duration of each cookie varies and is noted in the tables in Section 3. As a general guide:

  • Session cookies are deleted automatically when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies remain on your device for a defined period (ranging from minutes to two years) or until you delete them through your browser settings.
  • You can clear all cookies stored by the Platform at any time by clearing your browser's cache and cookies (see Section 6).

6. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You have several options for controlling how cookies are used on your device. Please note that restricting certain cookies may affect the functionality of the Platform.

6.1 Our Cookie Consent Banner

We are in the process of implementing a cookie consent banner on the Platform. Once live, this banner will allow you to accept or reject non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) before they are placed on your device. You will also be able to update your preferences at any time through the “Cookie Settings” link in the Platform footer.

Until the consent banner is fully deployed, non-essential cookies may be set upon your first visit. We recommend managing your preferences through your browser settings in the interim (see Section 6.2).

6.2 Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically:

  • Block all cookies (note: this will prevent the Platform from working properly)
  • Block third-party cookies only, while allowing first-party cookies
  • Delete existing cookies stored on your device
  • Set your browser to notify you when a cookie is being placed

For guidance on managing cookies in your browser, visit:

  • Google Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
  • Mozilla Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cookies-information-websites-store-on-your-computer
  • Microsoft Edge: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/delete-and-manage-cookies
  • Safari: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/safari/sfri11471

6.3 Opt Out of Google Analytics

To prevent Google Analytics from collecting your browsing data across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

6.4 Opt Out of Google Ad Personalisation

To opt out of personalised advertising served by Google, visit Google’s Ad Settings at https://adssettings.google.com. You may also opt out of interest-based advertising through industry opt-out tools such as:

  • Your Online Choices (youronlinechoices.com) – for users in regions where this applies
  • Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org)
  • Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info)

Please note that opting out of ad personalisation does not mean you will stop seeing advertisements; you will simply see ads that are less relevant to your interests.

7. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal that requests websites not to track your browsing activity. Currently, there is no universally agreed standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. The Platform does not alter its cookie behaviour in response to a DNT signal at this time. We will update this section if an industry standard is adopted.

8. Cookies and Minors

The Platform is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly place cookies on the devices of minors. If you believe a minor has used the Platform and cookies have been placed on their device, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

9. Updates to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, updates to third-party services, or changes in applicable law or best practice. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via the Platform or by email.

We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies. Your continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
