About

Eveready East Africa PLC is a leading Kenyan manufacturer and marketer of portable power solutions, specializing in dry cell batteries, automotive batteries, lighting products, and household energy solutions. The company operates through three main segments: Automotive (offering TURBO® and TURBOPlus+® maintenance-free and vented car batteries, battery water, and acid), Lighting (flashlights, lanterns, and bulbs under TURBO® brand), and Household (dry cell batteries in various sizes and types including carbon zinc, alkaline, lithium, and rechargeable). It also distributes imported Eveready and Energizer flashlights and batteries, Schick razors and accessories, and has diversified into real estate through subsidiaries Flamingo Properties Kenya Limited and Flamingo Properties Uganda Limited.

Founded on 6 March 1967 as Union Carbide Kenya Limited, a subsidiary of the US-based Union Carbide Corporation, with ICDC and ICDC Investments as minority shareholders, the company changed its name to Eveready Batteries Kenya Limited in 1986 following acquisition by Sameer Group's East Africa Batteries. It adopted its current name, Eveready East Africa, in 2004 amid diversification into consumer products like Schick razors after Energizer Holdings' acquisition of Schick-Wilkinson Sword. Listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) in 2006 via an oversubscribed IPO (733%), it maintains a plant in Nakuru and headquarters in Nairobi.

Positioned as East Africa's largest supplier of portable power solutions with over 50 years of experience, Eveready boasts a broad distribution network across hypermarkets, wholesalers, electronics stores, institutions, petrol stations, and e-commerce. Despite recent financial challenges, including a revenue drop to KSh 16.8 million and net loss of KSh 43.77 million for FY ending 30 September 2023 due to cash flow issues, the company focuses on innovation, sustainability (battery recycling, solar/wind storage, EV batteries), restructuring, and growth in emerging energy markets.
